Monitoring without Numbers

Monitoring without numbers

Monitoring your progress is important but I think we give power to the numbers it can become painful and obsessive. So here is my trick. I made a ring of ribbons of all the colors. I assigned a color to each body area. I measure a lot more than just chest, waist hips.....because it matters.....to me. Then I cut off the "extra" at each measuring time. and glue it end to end on the bigger green ribbon. This way I get the 30,000 foot view of overall how much progress I have made.

So I monitor myself but by general length of ribbons vs. the looming black cloud that is a tape measure. Because the numbers don't really matter. They don't matter how they compare to anyone else but me ....last time I measured.

In 2023 I plan to monitor quarterly for my measurements. On the 9th of the month because.....The first of the month usually just blows right by me AND my birthday is on the 9th of January so why not celebrate my accomplishments on the quarterly anniversary of my birthday......

Language matters.....What do you want to monitor to find ways to celebrate yourself?

Don't teach a pig to sing!

That's right , Don't teach a pig to sing! It will frustrate you and annoy the pig. I found this sage advice on a dear friend's blog last night. And realized that is exactly what I have been doing for the last week with a website company that turned out not to be as promised, thus pushing a big dream of mine a little firther from my grasp.

Not to worry, this pothole in the road will now lead me to a much better home for my "baby". Especially since the other piece of advice she gave me was a quote from a company whose motto is "We don't teach our employees to be nice to our customers, we just hire nice employees!" With that I am off to hire a company that can really make my dream sing!!!!

Thanks my friend for always being there and putting things into perspective!

A Different Kind of Father's Day

The bumper sticker read: "If I had known grandchildren were so much fun I would have had them first!". This is one of the philosophies that greeted me as I became a Florida resident 23 years ago.

So I married a man that already had grandchildren and voila! I had lived into the magic of having grandchildren first!

So we choose to honor our relationship, enjoy the family that already existed and ... get a bird and eventually 2 cats.

We just had the priviledge to spend most of a week with his son & his wife and 2 grandsons. It warms my heart to see what a wonderful Dad and G'pop my husband is. So Thanks Honey for being a great Dad, G'pop and father to your feathered and furry children too!

Oh and by the way, we finally found him the right recliner on sale and purchased it around Mother's Day, so we swapped Mother's Day and Father's Day this year, so Honey ..... Where's my
present?

Happy Father's Day to all Dad's everywhere!

Take time to make time

As I was sitting on the deck at our hotel in Ft. Myers Beach, daydreaming as I watched the gulf surge in and out, I became aware of the music in the back ground ... "take time to make time, make time to be there ..."

I am reminded how glad I am that I have not only learned this lesson but have acted on it! I took time off work to spend with my mother in her last year. What a wonderful year that was! We are taking time to spend with my husband's family for his grandson's 16th birthday.

When used properly, technology can be a wonderful blessing, I can be a little productive while we are "Taking time to make time to Be There!"

Here's to a great week!

Pondering Questions

Here's to the Possibilities yet unfound in my new blogging adventure!

From the questions that have answers there is much you can learn. And from those questions that have no answers you can learn even more.

For the questions that have no answers put you into the realm of possibilities. Those possibilities will take you as far as you dare to go.

Whole new worlds are there to be created when you set out to explore the possibilities. By opening yourself to new possibilities, you're able to escape old limitations.

There is never any reason to remain stuck in an undesirable situation. For there are always possibilities waiting to lead you to a better place.

Just beneath the surface of what is, you'll find a universe of possibilities for what can be. Look beyond the concerns of the moment, and dare to imagine the best life you can envision.

Being fully alive means being open to the countless possibilities that grow more abundant with each passing moment. Among all those possibilities are the ones that will take you exactly where you wish to go.
